  Come on Linus ! I know you could have done a better job comparing these consoles. Why did you even think of comparing Doom Eternal. That game is running on backward compatible mode on both these consoles which means the series s is just running the base xbox one version of the game on 720p to 900p whereas series x is running the one x version of the game. You just compared xbox one to xbox one x and called series s a dogpile. The series s would have done a much better job if the next gen patch for the game was out. Unfair Comparison :(

  You should run this test again, many of the games that you tested were before patches that made the game aware of the platform. Series S vs One S. Take Doom Eternal for example, it looks nearly identical now on Series X and S because it’s aware of the hardware.

  I do intend to upgrade to a better TV, but I sit at least 8 feet away. With xCloud getting hotter, I'd stick to series S. With the kind of stocks X and PS5 have, a minor issue with the console would take months to replace. Pain in the ass for the sake of pixel peeking.

  Valhalla has a performance mode now on series s so its running at 60. I'm getting my S monday. I mainly chose series S because everything else sells out in a hot minute and unfortunately I had to buy a bundle as well. Maybe I'll upgrade later down the line when the X or ps5 are more readily available or maybe I'll be happy enough with the S to not care to get anything else. I am upgrading from the og xbone so it'll be a far better experience for me thn somebody coming from the one x.

  I bought the S and still have my One X and honestly can’t tell that much of a difference. Here’s what everyone misses about the storage. You are going to need the Extended storage regardless of the system you choose. I bought the Extended cartridge and yes that puts it in the X's price range but that gives 1.2 of real storage after the OS is accounted for and other functions like Quick Resume. However I also have a 1TB SSD and an 8TB HD. That’s 10.5TB total! The internal & Extended are for X/S games or games I want to load fast (like Halo) the external drives are for my older games which can play from those drives. Thus, I have no storage issues. As for graphics, I've found the S to be at least as good as the One X which is saying a lot! I've also seen the comparison videos and honestly, I can’t tell that there's $500 worth of difference. If there is it’s a hairs breath of difference. So, for me (a casual gamer) the S is a fantastic deal. Lastly, the S is just better looking! It takes up less space and does just fine on my 70” LG 4K UHD which I'm replacing with a 70” High Sense with Dolby Vision. Btw, the S and High Sense both cost less together than what I paid for the LG alone! The Series X is just big and ugly, no imagination. The PS5 is even bigger but at least it looks cool. The S just sits in my entertainment center looking very unobtrusive while powering my dreams.😁

  @undead fodder Well, I do have a lot of unused space but several games I've collected over the years. It might be a little bit overkill but I imagine I'm prepared for future growth. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the S. You'll get 4K graphics and faster interaction speed and loading. I honestly don’t know how it could be faster. It’s very near instantaneous in booting up or loading games. I think you'll be very pleased with it.

  @undead fodder ok, maybe a tad more than casual (lol). I have collected a lot of games but I don’t play them all. I usually play about an hour before putting it up. So, I do think of myself as casual. My main thought was to make the S more viable and that was through a lot of storage. The Extended Storage is a must. But even that needs more storage which the SSD and 8TB HD provide.

  Yea the S looks nice but idk if I'd call you a casual gamer if you have a 70" tv and 2 external drives hooked up to s plus the $200 card lol. I'm getting my S monday and I'll just be on a 40" and have an 8tb external hdd that I'll swap games in and out from the internal ssd and I'm pretty hardcore I buy most games and game everyday. So you might be a bit more than casual haha. I don't see how you would play sparingly if you NEEDED all that storage cuz a casual can get by probably with no external or a smaller hdd.

  Can you talk about how the xbox one x is better than the series s? There is absolutely no reason the one x cant play next gen games. When you have a discless consoles that has 20% less performance. The Cpu is the series s is newer, but it can’t even output 4k or match the computing power of the one x why is no one talking about this?

  Ive got a gaming pc with a 3080, and i just found this on Newegg for retail. I scooped it up. Heres the way i look at it. For a pc gamer like myself, I dont need a series X. I have the raw performance beat already in my pc. But having already paying for Gamepass, Im missing out on alot of cool console exclusive games (and oldschool xbox 360 titles) Then also the series S/X can really easily run emulators. AND my girlfriend loves Forza so this will be her machine primarily. So for a pc gamer, it does make sense to get a Series S. Now i just need a PS5

  Just remember that with the series s the difference isn't going to be as big with the two consoles, because most people will be playing the s on much smaller screens at 1080 to 1440 not on 4k screens, thats what the x is for. The difference isn't going to be as big because Linus is playing on an amazing TV.

  The reason Doom Eternal looks so much better on the Series X is because it’s running the Xbox One X enhanced version, the Series S is running the base model version. When you compare next gen optimized games or games without One X enhancements, the difference really isn’t that much. Cold War and Watch Dogs Legion especially are both fine on each.
